People - Ceremoney: Buddah Meet Rock

So I managed to score a free ticket to AC/DC (thanks Amber!). Never thought I'd have the devil horns in the air willin' out to Angus Young, but yeah fuckin great.
Anyways, heres some classic rock shit (not in the typical sense obviously) from Japanese hard/psych rockers "People". 13 minutes of slow chugging/chanting/psy goodness

Yayoi Kusama

While we're on the Japanese tip, I finally made it to see the Yayoi Kusama exhibition which is pretty amazing (to put it mildly). A very colourful and interesting character, I definately recommend checking it out. If you want to make the most of its probably best to go earlier in the morning when its not so crowded and you can check the mirror/light room exhibits for longer as opposed to 45 seconds. This week is the last week of the exhibition so get in while you still can (they are open later than usual). Been thinking I should send Kusama a bag of marbles and the people album as a thank you for the head trip.

Jay - Z and the Masonic Order?

Jay-Z’s latest video called “Run This Town” (featuring Rihanna and Kanye West) contains occult symbolism relating to secret societies. It has been long rumored that Jay-Z is part of some sort of occult order (probably Freemasonry) due to the hints slipped in his songs and his imagery.

This extract is taken from vigalintcitizen.com and supports the argument that prolific rapper Jay Z is down with Freemasonry. It's not the first time we have heard references in songs to secret societies. Check this photo of the man wearing a sweater with the saying "Do what Thou Wilt" Although this saying was interpreted in different ways, most agree that it refers to the dismissal of conventional moral and ethical rules in order to find one’s “True Will”. In other words, the usual guidelines by which good and evil are determined have to be blurred and forgotten to obtain the true path to illumination. There's lots of press around the video and Frankly I'm not sure what to make of it?

Still Bill - Documentary screening 9th February

Heads Up! Big up Lisa Preston aka LP and Bluevibe Studio for sorting this one out, should be great doco and night...

"Bluevibe Collective (based out of Auckland) have secured the rights to
screen the wonderfully intimate documentary about Bill Withers - "Still
Bill". Many thanks go out also to Radio Active for their support of this
event.

You know the music, now meet the man..... Still Bill is an intimate portrait
of soul legend Bill Withers, best known for his classics "Ain't no
sunshine", "Lean on me", "Lovely day", "Grandma's hands" (to name but a few
of the gifts he has given us over the years...). With his soulful delivery
and warm, heartfelt sincerity, Withers has written the songs that have and
always will - resonate deeply within the fabric of our times.

Filmmakers Damani Baker and Alex Vlack follow Withers and offer a unique and
rare look inside the world of this fascinating man. Through concert
footage, journeys to his birthplace, interviews with music legends, his
family and closest friends, STILL BILL presents the story of an artist who
has written some of the most beloved songs in our time and who truly
understands the heart and soul of a man.

Tickets are $15.00 plus booking fee and are available direct from Paramount
Theatre from Friday 15th January or can be purchased online through:

http://www.iticketexpress.co.nz/events/2010/feb/still-bill-plus-soul-music-party/

As well as the film screening, extra soul flavours will be added to the
night thanks to Radio Active's Soul Affair DJs and special guests. Doors
open at 7.30pm so come along for a drink and a listen before the screening,
and enjoy the party that will prevail after !

Looking forward to catching up with you all there,

Kit Knows - First Kit On The Moon

"Kit Knows brings us a heavyweight rap version of fLako’s beattape The First Spaceshit On The Moon released in spring 2009. All tracks have been transformed into fully-fledged songs. By keeping the original track names and recording vocals throughout, he has kept the original flavour and has made the beattape grow to something complete." kwatro

Welcome to 2010, It's going to be a goodie.

Been Slacking on the posts of late because I have been on holiday on the wonderful black sand beaches of Taranaki with fellow Dropper's Flava fras, Dicky D and the crew. Portable turntable and MPC1000 were present so we kicked some jams, only way to record was onto my phone.
hope you don't mind the quality and still can catch the vibe (sounds better through headphones).

Getz/Gilberto

Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto Feat Antonio Carlos Jobim. I picked this up on vinyl a few weeks ago. It was strictly meant for sampling but i thought it would go down a treat for a Sunday jazz post.
