ALOE BLACC – I NEED A DOLLAR
"This is the lead off single from Aloe Blacc's forth coming album Good Things, produced by Truth & Soul, and featuring the backing band known as Expressions and El Michels Affair. The A-Side “I Need A Dollar” has just debuted as the theme song to the HBO series How To Make It In America. " Stonethrow

Cold Legistics - Peace
A little tribute to Dilla coming from ill beat maker Cold Legistics. Soul beats for a SOUL BROTHER. TURN IT UP!
Eddie Gale - Black Rhythm Happening
Got put onto Eddie Gale a couple weeks ago by Mr Dangerspiel (shot cuzzy), so have had this album "Black Rhythm Happening" as well as the extraordinairy "Ghetto Music" on frequent rotation. I vaguely remembered Gales name through his recordings with Sun Ra & his Arkestra, but he has also contributed to other seminal releases such as Cecil Taylors "Unit Structures" and Larry Young's "Of Love And Piece". Gales playing is a good example of taking the "older" jazz styles and combining with the "newer/freer/spiritual" as well as other "non-jazz" influences. Regardless of all the different influences that can be heard, this is straight up SOUL music.
(thought I'd include the "Ghetto Music" cover as well, which is Gales wacky parody of the KKK)
Eddie Gale - Black Rhythm Happening
Moved in for three days, couldn't hack it.
"We were having one of those bad runs, where you seem to interview about thirty people every day and they are all zipper heads. We really took this guy in desperation. He wasn't A-list, didn't have a microwave or anything like that, and now both he and the felafel roll were cold" John Birmingham.
I was given a book by a guy named Olli who recently moved into the empty room in our flat, Over a cup of tea and a cigarette on the front porch he told many story's about delusional flatmates and crawling in and out of flats around Auckland. He Died with a Felafel in His Hand is a novel by John Birmingham, first published in 1994, This comic edition consists of a collection of storys about living in share houses in Brisbane and other cities in Australia with variously dubious housemates. The title refers to a deceased heroin addict found in one such house. "Here is the full horror and madness of shared housing, as experienced by millions of young Australians, in hilarious and graphic detail".
If you think you got it bad this is a must read.

Bit of A Stones Throw Round Up
So its Dilla's birthday this Sunday and as you may or may not know he died three days after his his 32nd birthday so its quite fitting that Stonesthrow have made available the 2003 Jaylib Vs J-Rocc mixtape. It's a "mixtape of Dilla, Madlib & Jaylib songs as well as some of the sources, essentially telling the story of this group".
Also to coincide with the Stonesthrow 2010 Hoodies & Sweatshirt releases is this ST X Stussy Dilla Tee.
Also here's more free tunage from the forthcoming reissue album by the Equatics. And lastly keep ya eyes peeled for the Guilty Simpson x Oh No remix joints which will be dropping on the Stones Throw facebook/twitter as well as Mayer Hawthornes "A Strange Arrangement" instrumental LP. For more info on all this dope shit go to the Stonesthrow website. Holla
